Electrotherapy And Physiotherapy Singapore
Electrotherapy are common physiotherapy modalities that we use to treat muscular, ligamental and bone disorders. Below we have listed some of the main ones:Ultrasound therapy Ultrasound therapy uses high frequency sound waves to treat soft tissues, muscles and tendon injuries. The physiotherapist will adjust the wavelength and frequency of the sound waves at the specific target area to achieve the clinical effectiveness we want. Ultrasound increases blood flow and circulation, as well as stimulating cell activity, which improves and increases the healing process as well as providing relief from pain by decreasing inflammation. At the tissue level, it breaks down scar adhesions and tissue because of the sound waves, and this helps to re-align tissue fibers in the proper and best alignment. Conditions that results with scar adhesions and scar tissues, painful muscle spasms and neurologically caused pain have been treated by ultrasound therapy with good results. Interferential Therapy The interferential therapy treatment is a technique that has been used for more than 30 years. By using electrical current, the patients in our physiotherapy clinic are provided with treatment for muscle spasms and inflammation. Most of our patients report that they feel a gentle current somewhat like the sensation of pins and needles. There are two kinds: the portable interferential unit and the more clinical heavy-duty Chattanooga interferential unit Muscle stimulator Also utilizing electrical current again, we can elicit or stimulate the contraction and relaxation of muscles. This is useful and good to rehabilitate muscles that are weak due to post-operation or post injury. It also helps to restore balance in muscle, and is used after a stroke in neurorehabilitation. TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) TENS helps with relieving pain by intercepting pain nerves and blocking pain messages. This unit is very mobile (size is somewhat like an iPhone) and small, and is a relatively good alternative to painkillers, as they mask pain experience, allowing patients, whilst using it, to continue functioning in their daily activities, going to work, or participating in activities. TENS are usually used to manage long term pain e.g. low back pain and arthritis. All electrotherapy are used with our physiotherapy treatments, as and when necessary. We do carry units for sale; if you decide to try one or buy one please speak with our physiotherapists on correct use and training as suitable for you. How can we help you?
