Techniques That We May Employ

1. clapping or percussion therapy: the physiotherapist lightly percusses the patient's chest, back, and area under the arms


2. chest flutter/vibratory therapy (manual or mechanical oscillating-alternative pressure)to loosen any mucus or phlegm


3. specific breathing exercises which includes deep breathing exercises, exhalation exercises with the use of a regular incentive spirometer or if you want something more accurate to track and measure chest/lung changes, you can use Microlife PF 100 Peak Flow Meter for Spirometry with FEV1


4. autogenic drainage


5. general cardiovascular exercises which assists the body to remove sputum as well as to improve the efficiency of oxygen up-take in muscles.

Postural positional for maximal lungs drainage will sometimes be prescribed by our physiotherapists, to clear to lungs of any unnecessary fluids. This can be done using our specialized medical beds, or by the use of firm foams or pillows, placed strategically to help patients drain the unnecessary mucus or fluids by postural methods.
